Perth Radiological Clinic takes part in Relay for Life

Over the weekend of April 16 and 17 2011 a group of 20 dedicated fundraisers from Perth Radiological Clinic’s Subiaco branch took part in the Cancer Council WA’s Relay for Life, to raise money for, and awareness of, people suffering from cancer. The fundraiser pays tribute to those battling cancer, those who have overcome it and those who have succumbed to the disease that claims the lives of many West Australians every year. In Western Australia in 2008, 10,408 new cases of cancer were diagnosed.

Our team was lead by Kaila Beilken, who is a medical receptionist at the Subiaco clinic. She has taken part in the event for several years now but this year decided to get her work colleagues involved. To help raise money the team hosted a sausage sizzle at the local Bunnings store and ran a raffle whose prizes were donated by the staff and doctors from the Practice. Their aim was to raise $5000.

Relay for Life also acknowledges all the good work done by family and friends who care for those suffering from the disease.

The team said it was a grueling night but nothing compared to what people suffering from cancer experience on a daily basis. Kaila said she, like all the team, was proud of their achievement and delighted that they had raised $5118.00 to help fund valuable research into the disease.
