Perth Radiological Clinic’s Magnetic Resonance Centre on the corner of Rokeby and Hamersley Roads in Subiaco is now home to a new state of the art MRI scanner. The latest arrival, weighing in at a mere 6 tonnes, was craned in via a gaping hole in the roof of the two storey building early on Sunday morning. Hamersley Road was closed off for most of the morning to accommodate the large crane required to lift the machine into place.
The double strength high field 3 T(Tesla) MRI scanner will produce images of unparalleled resolution and clarity. This equates to much faster scan times, in some cases up to 50% faster than conventional MRI scanners, improving patient comfort and convenience. The new scanner is particularly useful for imaging the brain, spine, joints and for cardiovascular imaging. It will compliment the centre’s other high field 3T MRI scanner, making it Western Australia’s only and one of Australia’s first sites to have side by side high field 3T MRI machines.
The new scanner will be operational within the next 2-3 weeks.
