About Perth
Perth is the capital and largest city of Western Australia. It is the fourth most populous city in Australia with an estimated 2 million people living in Greater Perth. Perth is a beautiful city situated on the Swan River and enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate with mild winters and sunny, warm summers.
Perth is home to four public universities, one private university and 10 hospitals with Emergency Departments. The principle sites of tourism centre around the city, the port of Fremantle, the Swan Valley wine region and nearby Rottnest Island.
Perth’s major arts, cultural and educational institutions are located in the Perth Cultural Centre including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum, the State Library of Western Australia, the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the State Theatre of Western Australia.
The climate of Perth allows for extensive outdoor sporting activity, and this is reflected in the wide variety of sports available to citizens of the city. Perth is home to several professional sporting teams participating in national competitions including Australian Rules Football, Rugby Union, Basketball, Cricket, Netball, Association Football (soccer), baseball and volleyball.
