Dexa Body

If you are about to embark on a fitness or weight-loss program, a DEXA body composition scan may be useful to assess and show the distribution of your body fat and soft tissue.  Along with advice from your personal trainer, dietitian or exercise physiologist, a dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) body composition scan may provide you with the information you need to help you achieve your goals.

Does any of the following apply to you? If so please contact us as soon as possible.

  • You suspect or know that you may be pregnant
  • You are a diabetic

Do you require an interpreter?
Is the patient non-english speaking? If so, we can arrange for an interpreter to be present during the appointment. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can make the relevant arrangements.

  • Please fast, and refrain from exercise for 2 hours prior to the procedure
  • Please advise of any previous bone densitometry, or body composition studies.
  • On arrival, you will need to complete relevant paperwork
  • You will be required to change into a gown and remove any jewellery
  • You will be required to lie down on a table and the arm of the machine will move over you but will not touch you
  • The technician will request your height and weight for this procedure
  • The whole procedure can take around 30 minutes to complete
  • The images will be reviewed and reported by one of our specialist radiologists
  • Please advise our reception staff of your follow up appointment date with your referring doctor.
